Skin grazing after facial waxing... let's discuss.

Have you ever had your brows waxed and then you noticed your skin is shiny and red? you panic thinking your brow tech has burnt you! Fear not this is not a burn! If it was a burn you would be red and raised on the entire area we applied the wax what your experiencing is a skin lift… ouch. We know it hurts we have had them too! for example our salon managers brow lifted only on one side just before her wedding (it didn’t happen for months prior) she knew it was a lift and got to work ensuring her skin was looked after (applying antiseptic, avoid make up for 48hrs, keep hydrated and protected (vaseline) SPF!)

So how could this happen?

  • Just because our skin is more sensitive at the time of the wax
  • Hormonal changes
  • Medical changes (new medicine etc)
  • Recent UV exposure
  • Active skin care such as acids, retinols and other exfoliants
  • Skin dehydration
  • Waxing to frequently (of course keep your waxer updated if you have had waxing within 3 weeks)

What can we do to prevent a lift

So avoiding some of the things from the above list is a MUST so please avoid UV exposure for at least 7-14 days. Also stop using active skin care (acids, retinols) around 1-2 weeks prior to the appointment. Please do let us know what skin care you use even if 1-2 weeks has passed.

Keep us updated with any medical changes (recent pregnancy/birth/hormonal changes (new contraception)

A big one keep your skin hydrated and supply applying a nice hydrating moisturiser daily and a SPF will keep your skin in the best condition.

We are here to keep you safe so keep us updated with any changes to your medical history. Although lifts can happen we can do our very best to try to prevent them – Love Elite wax Sheffield
